In his workshop in Haguenau , Michel Dupuy creates and realizes his ceramics in multipiece plaster moulds that he makes from a hand-fashionned clay pattern. This process alone may take several weeks.
The liquid clay casted in the mould is the beginning of the manufacturing process . Then , to reconstitute one of these complex houses , several parts will often have to be assembled , as in the case of some masterpieces of the collection like the famous "Maison des Tanneurs" or "Maison Pfister".
Afterwards , on these fresh casts (before complete drying) Michel Dupuy carves , improves with patience and gives to each of these pieces its own character.
The firing at 1100°C finely delivers the hardened material to the artist's thorough paint-brush... In this way he gives birth to the miniature Alsatian houses.
Replicas and creations
The artist Michel Dupuy is, in his own way , an ambassador of Alsace . From observation and photos made while rambling through the country , or found in art books and after constituting with patience a thick documentation , he knows how to accurately reproduce historic buildings like the "Maison Kammerzell" and the "Maison des Tanneurs" in Strasbourg , the "Maison Pfister" in Colmar , The "Mont Sainte-Odile"- church consecrated to the patron saint of Alsace , the house where the doctor Schweitzer was born in Kaysersberg , and so on ...
But the home of the people is not forgotten , and you'll rediscover the famous "Winstub" (inn) , the bakery , the farm.....and , of course , the villager's house , so simple and so attractive, full of the soul given by the magic fingers of the creative artist.
